it’s late so this will be quick. Last month I bought Method brand glass cleaner. I LOVE it! It is all natural plant derived and it works better than windex. It also smells like mint! It is great stuff.

something else I love is that you can buy it at many stores and it does not cost a fortune. Try it, you will like it!

Missing them

grandfather, grandfathers death, grandmothers death, grandparents, granmother, missing grandfather, missing grandmother

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my grandfather passed away on Christmas. He was very special to me and was my only real father figure growing up. When I was young he seemed to always be in the background. Quiet, unassuming. When he spoke it seemed stern and serious. As I got older I saw him laugh more and realized he liked telling jokes and funny stories. When I had my first child, his first great grandchild, I saw a glow in him I had never seen. I saw him hold his great granddaughter and the stern serious man was replaced with a loving sweet old man. One night my grandmother, Nana, called me ( we spoke fairly often on the phone, I was very close to her) after not having called her in about a week. She scolded me and said “you know your grandfather worries about you when you don’t call. Just give him a call sometimes so he can hear your voice”. That was the first time I realized how much he cared. I knew he loved me, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t realize he thought of me so often.

I went through a bad divorce and my Nana and Bupa were always there to listen to me and not judge. Soon after that Nana broke her hip and declined in health. She passed a year later. It was Heartbreaking.

Of course it was the worst for my Bupa. He was never the same. They had been married for almost 60 years.
He slowly slipped away. We would go to visit after being told he probably won’t know us and he would see me and smile and say “ooh Kelly, how are you doing?” He would even remember my 2 oldest girls and my new husband I had recently married. I was always so great full.
We were supposed to go spend Christmas Eve at his house (my aunt was living there taking care of him) it has been my tradition since I was born. My aunt told me he was doing poorly, after some discussion, we decided it would be best for my 3 children not to see him so bad off, so we didn’t go. I felt the most guilt regarding that decision when I got the text on Christmas Day saying he had passed. I still feel we made the right decision, I just hope he wasn’t disappointed that we didn’t come.

Now I miss him, like I miss my Nana. They were a part of me. But I “feel” them. I know, it sounds crazy, but I do. I can hear their voices and see their facial expressions when I do things they would normally sarcastically comment on, lol.

I’m at peace knowing they are together. But I can’t help but miss them sometimes.

Thanks to my sister, who gave this to me for Christmas, this is my new best friend in the kitchen! Olive Oil Mister!!

This is such a great way to get healthy olive oil into your diet but in weight friendly amounts. I use this in place of cooking spray and instead of pouring olive oil into a sauté pan. I also love this for spraying on salads, I just need another one for my vinegar!

Oh, and by the way, my arms and chest are KILLING me today form the workout yesterday! Glad today is a rest day but I’ll be jumping back in tomorrow!

Today is the day! I am starting my New Year Resolution to drop a few lb’s today. I am 37 years old, 5’7″ tall and a medium build. The healthy weight range for me is 128-160lbs (according to surgeon general and weight watchers) I had a baby 15 months ago and and have done pretty good loosing the weight. As of today I weigh 145lbs. I am within my range but I know my body and the weight I know I am comfortable with is 140lbs. So 5lbs to loose. I know that doesn’t seem like much but since I already eat pretty well, it does make it a challenge. I need to start exercising more and would like to tone  up.

Here is the challenge, loose 2 lbs a week. Do cardio for 30 min at least 3 times a Week and some toning exercises at least 5 times a week. I will be posting a list of the toning exercises that I have chosen, there are a few that target each body zone. I will also be using the weight watchers point program. So there it is. Wish me luck! When I post the exercises I challenge you to do it with me for 30 days, let’s see what we can do!!

Now of course all I want to do is eat!

Lesson learned

Baby fall, Baby falls, baby falls hits her head. Take baby to ER for fall, baby fell off bed, Baby fell off of bed, baby hit head, baby hitting her head, call, ER after baby falls, fall off bed, hits head, learning lesson, lessons, mom learns, toddler falls, we for baby hitting head

My 15 month old fell off my bed the other night onto the hardwood floor on her head.  My oldest, 14 and my 9 year old took the baby, Lyla to play in my bedroom. I had the fleeting thought, it may be a bad idea, but didn’t do anything about it. A little while later I heard a bang, I knew what it was before I heard the crying. the 14 yr old came out of the room carrying the hysterical baby. She said oh it wasn’t that bad, I grabbed her leg as she fell, bla bla bla…. I was furious! I said, “how could you let her fall??” “why weren’t you paying attention??”. I sent her to her room while I tried to calm the baby to no avail. I called her pediatrician. Since it was 7:30 on a Saturday we had to wait for the on call person to get back to us.

What I learned,

as long as there is no bleeding, vomiting, loss of consciousness, or disorientation and they fell from less than 2x their height…..no need to go to ER. Any of the above occur?? Straight to the ER!

Luckily after about 20 min she calmed dowN and seemed no worse for the wear.

Lesson I learned… It was my responsiblity to make sure she was safe not ultimately my 14 yr old daughters.  I had to tell her I was sorry and I was also to blame. I hate admitting guilt, lol.

Don’t overestimate your children’s abilities. don’t get me wrong, my 14 yr old, Taylor, is an amazing child. Smart, innovative, kind, generous and pretty much always does the right thing. She is not an adult or a mother. That’s it. I am and I should have not given her my job, which I did when I let her take the baby to play on the bed. Lesson Learned.

I have found my new fav chili! Turkey sweet potato chili. I wasn’t sure about the sweet potatoes at first, but they were great! it’s healthy and low cal to boot! I also made some corn muffins but since I didn’t have eggs I substituted ground flax seed and they were great! I only recently realized you could use flax seed as an egg substitute in baking and it really works. I have the pickiest 9 year old who scarfed down 4 of the corn muffins tonight, so I know they were good. She even ate a small bowl of chili! If you only knew how bad of an eater she is you would understand my excitement, lol. The chili was also only 5 Weight Watcher points, and is fine in the frock pot, dream dinner! if you want the exact recipe let me know and I will be happy to write it out.

cooking fish, cooking tilapia, dinner, fish, healthy dinner, Healthy family dinners, healthy meal, lemon, lemon potatoes, meal points, Tilapia, weight watchers, weight watchers dinner, weight watchers points, wholesome meals, yummy dinner

I am used to cooking, I’m no gourmet chef but I like to know what my family is eating so I cook full diners at least 5-6 times a week. I signed up for a “meal planning” program last month but just started it tonight. It gives me weekly menus and directions as well as the grocery list. I have chosen the meal plan with Weight Watcher points since that is what I have decided to try to loose a few lbs. I swear, taking the weekly meal planning off my shoulders was an instant stress relief! My plan is to try each meal as given to me and then makes notes about what we thought as a family. My 9 yr old is the pickiest eater and I have even told her that she must try everything I make. She actually tried fish tonight! She hated it, but she tried it and that’s huge! Tonight’s dish was Athenian tilapia with lemony potatoes. It was pretty good and only took 30 min from start to finish.

I didnt think to take any pics but I will try to document the dinners in the future in case anyone wants the recipes.

Oh, and the WW points for the fish and potatoes was only 8 total! And I was full after!

Its time for bed now, but I will blog tomorrow about my Weight Watchers and exercise challenge. I’m even going to reveal my weight!! Lol, good night!
