Summer vacation for my kiddos is in less than 2 weeks. They have almost 3 full months off. I love summer and since I am a stay at home mom, I truly enjoy spending the summer with my girls. My oldest is going into high school next year and it is a very demanding school. I’m honestly a little nervous for her. Because of this and the fact that kids get bored, quickly, I’ve decided to home school for the summer. Don’t get me wrong, there will be a lot of play and relaxation, but also at least an hour or two a day for some work. I have no idea how to go about this. I have ordered some work books ( with the answers in the back. I’m not suicidal!) and figure I will start there. The girls were actually ok with the idea, which surprised me.
My hope is that they feel more confident when they get back to school. I do hope to teach them something new as well! I hope to do “field trips” to local places and hope to learn new things myself.
If you have any helpful suggestions for me please share! My girls are going into 4th and 9th grade. ( the 20 month old will just be along for the ride 🙂
For your 9th grader, I would suggest aBeka and go with their consumer mathematics book. It teaches not only arithmetic concepts, but money management and more.
For your 4th grader, I would go with Summer Vacation 4th Grade; you can get this online at Amazon for under $10.
I hope you find what you’re looking for!
